People Can Turn Garbage Into Cool Stuff, But This Is Amazing

Gregory Kloehn goes dumpster diving, but not for the reason that most people would think. He isn’t homeless. In fact, he is an artist from Oakland that is trying to help the homeless and develop his craft at the same time. Instead of building sculptures that he would sell to rich people, he decided to focus his efforts on the homeless.

He uses what he collects to build small, one-room shelters for the homeless. And his homeless project is getting attention. Not only from the media, buy from the people he helps as well. The little homes are only about the size of a sofa. But, something that small can mean the world to someone living on the streets.

Each of the homes are built with a pitched a roof so rain will run off, and have wheels so the owners can wheel them around if they need to. Amazing!

Dan Phillips is building truly affordable homes from salvaged materials for low-income residents who are willing to work on their own house. I respect this initiative for a bunch of reasons! It is a viable solution for a social problem, it is good for the environment, it is something creative and it doesn’t only build houses, it builds character… This is something worth spreading!
